The Importance of Corn
The Importance of Corn
Why is corn important?
Corn is important to us for several reasons. It can be found in many foods. Corn syrup is even found in sodas. Corn is also found in certian chips, like Tostitos.
But corn is also important to some other foods, even if they do not have any corn products in them. Corn is fed to cattle, pigs, chickens, and other livestock. So the next time you eat pork, beef, chicken, steak, or other meats, you will probably have corn to thank.
Corn is also used for fun. Have you ever been in a maze made of corn?
These life size mazes are in cornfields. They are usually during the autumn. They entertain the many people who go to these maize mazes. Who says not to play with your food?
There is another reason: Corn helps the economy.
When the farmer sells his corn, he gets money to plant more corn. The grocery store that bought the corn gets the corn, so it gets more money from the sale of corn. This money may go to buying more corn from the farmer, which gives the farmer more money to plant more corn, or it may go
to improving the store. If the store is better, more customers come. If more customers come, the store buys more corn. If the store buys more corn, the farmer gets money to plant even more corn.
The farmer and the store both have to pay taxes. These taxes are paid so the government can make the town a better place. This means more people will come, and when more people come, more corn is sold. The farmer gets more money from the sale of corn to the grocery store. Its a cycle.
Also, the corn might be sold to a popcorn company. The popcorn company sells the popcorn. The farmer gains because he can plant more corn with the money, and the popcorn company gains because it gets money from the sale of popcorn. You gain because you get to have popcorn(see face below). Everyone wins!
Those are just a few of the many ways corn is important. So be sure to eat corn, drink a soda, or eat some cereal made with corn; and, of course,
Be sure to have a happy Corn Day on January 28th!
